PURITY

As i was thinking of what to write about today, the holy spirit whispered purity in my ears but then i realized it is something that i have been reading about of lately as i am on that journey myself. After hearing God’s voice, i decided to obey and go for it. In a simple definition, purity is the state of not being mixed with anything else. I went for this definition because it really describes what the true definition of purity is and i know that we as human beings are not always pure in our thoughts , speeches and actions. Purity does not only symbolize water as many of you might think but it is related to guiltless, blameless, or innocent behavior. On a biblical angle, i came to a conclusion that we can not be pure in our own strength which brings me to the main things i believe can lead to purity. The bible says in Psalm 119:9 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your word” and this means that without the word , it is extremely difficult actually impossible to remain pure because it is by reading the scriptures that God speaks to our souls, hearts , minds and then in the process we get convicted by the holy spirit. It says in Hebrews 4:12 that For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. This really indicates the mighty power in God’s word in other words after an encounter with God, our lives are forced to undergo a total transformation. What is the secret of living a pure life ? happiness is promised to the pure in heart that is why the bible says in Matthew 5 :8 that happy are those whose hearts are pure for they shall see God. Our thoughts are very significant in remaining pure which means that whatever we think about reflects on what is in our hearts and this includes lust, adultery, abortions, sexual immorality, murder , hatred, anger , bitterness and jealousy. The bible says in Philippians 4:8″And now, brothers, as I close this letter let me say this one more thing: Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.” Purity includes concern for the needy “The Christian who is pure and without fault, from God the Father’s point of view, is the one who takes care of orphans and widows, and who remains true to the Lord not soiled and dirtied by his contacts with the world.” I think i have talked about this before but how you treat other people that do not have the same blessings as you do matters to God. Are you the type of person who only invests time in yourself but not in others? therefore when you do not have the capacity to think outside your box, then your heart is dark with no love in it. Finally there is what we call sexual purity and this is something that the church rarely preaches about especially to all the young people so the bible clearly states that sex is a physical intimacy between husband and wife but not between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. God created sex himself and he does not say we shouldn’t enjoy it but he created it in such a strict context that is only within marriage so if it is outside this context , then it is sin. Remaining sexually pure helps you to be confident and truly happy and improves your ability to make good decisions now and in the future. The Lord’s standard regarding sexual purity is clear and unchanging . Anyone that can not control his or her sex drive can not be faithful to their partner and what i mean by this is that there is a self discipline that comes along with sexual purity. We live in a world where sexual temptations are massive that it is by the grace of God that we can survive them. Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
